May 27, 2016  I do not have any kind of vpn to the site so I need something that works over the internet like teamviewer. Teamviewer's site has a note about this and the possibility of a dummy vga plug working, but I have no experience with using on of those and if they really work for this situation. Clicked once on the TeamViewer menubar (or whatever you call that thingy at the top of the W7 screen) to bring up the TeamViewer window. From that point on, connections worked fine, even after that window was closed. The symptom, to be more precise, was that on my Mac, TeamViewer would say 'Connecting', and go off into never-never land.

Important: In early June 2016, TeamViewer got hacked. Their team did reply with an official statement, but we encourage users to be cautious when using TeamViewer till the whole situation is well under control.

Soon after I gifted my dad a Samsung Galaxy S4 (we reviewed the S5 by the way, just in case you wanted to see), his point of interest changed from Windows to Android. He started coming up with issues on his Android device and like always, he wanted my assistance for the problems he faced on it.

Previously I used to call him up and guided him on how to fix the issues. The throughput in the entire task was way too much due to lack of visual assistance. However, I am thankful all of that changed once I learned about TeamViewer QuickSupport.

TeamViewer QuickSupport for Android

TeamViewer QuickSupport is an amazing app for Android, free for personal use, with which we can take remote control of an Android device from a Windows computer. I am sure you are going to like the trick, so let’s look at how the app works.

To get started, you will have to install the TeamViewer QuickSupport on your Android device and the TeamViewer app for Windows on your computer. Creating an account is not necessary for the app to work.

Some devices, like Samsung, LG, etc, might have to install an additional add-on for QuickSupport remote control to work. Once you have installed the apps on their respective devices, run them and wait for initialization.

Once the app initializes, it will generate a unique ID. Now all you need to do is enter the unique ID from the QuickSupport app to the Windows desktop app and launch the connection. Make sure both the devices are connected to the internet and the QuickSupport app is running on the device to create a successful connection.

Once the connection is made, you will not see the remote control directly; the app will show you a dashboard where you can see all the necessary details about the device that might be required before you start the troubleshooting. Once you are ready, click on the remote control tab on the top left corner of the screen to establish a remote connection. The person on the Android might have to allow several connection permissions before the devices are connected.

That’s all, you can now control the device remotely from Windows. Use mouse clicks for touch, and long clicks can be used for long taps. The keyboard can be used for text entry. It’s important to note that both parties maintain control over the device, so if you don’t want the other user interfering with your troubleshooting, let him know not to touch anything. You can do this over the chat tool the app offers, where you can communicate while you are in remote connection.

Apart from that, the app also provides a dashboard where you can uninstall apps, monitor processes, and get a compete work log of the device. If there is any task that requires a file to be downloaded to the device, you can simply download it on your computer and transfer it remotely to the device using the file transfer feature of the app.

6 Best Video Conferencing Apps To Chat With Multiple People

When people know you as a writer for a tech blog, they tend to remember you as the go to tech guy when they can’t figure out what’s wrong with their computers and gadgets. I have no qualms about helping friends and family with their tech problems but it can get irritating sometimes.

There are people who can wait till I am in front of my computer so that I can help them using a remote connection. But few of them act as if it’s the end of the world, and some alien race will take over their computer if it’s not fixed at the earliest. For these vexing souls, I installed the TeamViewer Remote Control app on my Android.

Important: In early June 2016, TeamViewer got hacked. Their team did reply with an official statement, but we encourage users to be cautious when using TeamViewer till the whole situation is well under control.

TeamViewer Remote Control allows you to remotely control any computer connected to the internet, right from your desktop. All it requires is the TeamViewer desktop application on the computer. So let’s see how the app works.

Establishing the Connection

Step 1: Download and install TeamViewer on your Android as well as on your PC you would like to control remotely to and from.

Step 2: After you install the application on both the devices, launch both of ’em. The application running on PC will provide you an ID and a password on the main app. Provide the ID and the password details on the TeamViewer app running on the Android and connect.

Step 3: That’s all, if both the computer and the Android are connected to the internet, the connection will be established and you will be notified about the same on the desktop. You can now remotely control the computer from your Android and take care of the things wherever you are.

Note: For best results, switch your phone to landscape mode while running the app.

That was all about setting up the connection. Now let’s explore the android app and see some of its features.

Using the Remote Control

Connect

After you are connected to the computer, you can drag the mouse pointer on the screen using your finger. To click an element on the computer screen tap single finger at the appropriate location on the android screen.

If you need to input some text using the keyboard, or you want to perform the right-click operation, you can do that using the respective buttons at the bottom of the app screen. The app supports pinch to zoom and two fingers scrolling if your device supports multi touch.

To configure the quality of the remote connection from the application settings, remove the wallpaper and enable UDP connection for best connection speed between the android and the computer. You can configure the settings from the desktop application as well.

My Verdict

The app impressed me to the core. I never thought I could remotely control a computer using an Android so easily and effectively, but TeamViewer proved me wrong. Try out the app today and share your experience with us. You might also want to see how to remote control uTorrent on desktop using your Android phone.
