But I’ve never used them with DVS until I got my hands on the NEON. I was going to write “slowly but surely” but this feels like one after another in rapid succession to me. I’m currently neck deep with the Denon MC2000 which doesn’t really warrant the Serato DJ upgrade in my opinion. But the Terminal Mix 4 in particular, just like Pioneer’s DDJ-SX, looks made for Serato DJ. If I were a TM4 owner, this without a doubt would be an essential upgrade.
About that – I’m sure that it can’t have escaped people’s notice that this round of upgrades has a 2 tier pricing structure. It’s now $129 for the Intro only upgrade, and the previously “free” Serato video plugin is now a bundle for $199. I don’t know how many users went for the first round, but some must be a tad annoyed at having to pay $199 for the upgrade to get a free video plugin that they probably didn’t want. Perhaps Serato are simply responding to sales and making the upgrade more competitive against full versions of Traktor, VDJ and MixVibes, especially with the latter making moves into the video market.
Personally, I’m more interested in seeing what new Serato DJ units will be on offer. I’m sure NAMM will bring something, but as yet radio silence is being maintained. Obviously, we’ll bring you the news as it happens.
